Herb Pharm Peppermint Spirits 1 fl oz (29.6 ml)

While Peppermint Oil is best known for its healthful properties in the treatment of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) it is also a prominent ingredient in most sinus and respiratory medications containing the ingredient menthol, which is derived from the peppermint herb.

Researchers at Exeter University have concluded that peppermint essential oil helps alleviates asthma condition as well as those associated with colds and the flu. These conditions are weakened and even killed off by steam containing essential oils like peppermint oil. Inhalations therapy in many cases can actually prevent these maladies from worsening.  In case you were wondering about menthol, and why it is used in so many respiratory products, such as Vicks, and muscle pain creams and ointments, such as Bengay, is because menthol is made from peppermint oil.

Keep in mind that while most of our inner organs can tolerate a significant amount of wear, the lungs cannot. The most effective preventative measures for the respiratory illnesses are fresh air, living in a dust free, mold and mildew free environment. However, in some case certain elements in the air such as pollen and grass can sometimes trigger adverse reactions for those who suffer from allergies. If you suffer from atmospheric allergies, you may also be prone to allergic reactions to household pets such as cats, dogs, and birds. Dust mites are also a culprit to avoid. Allergists recommend that pillows are double cased, blankets covered with a duvet, and all bedding washed in hot water.  Taking these precautions will reduce indoor allergic reactions, but a daily therapy of essential oils, including peppermint oil, herbs, and other natural remedies should relieve any lingering symptoms.

If you suffer from asthma, peppermint essential oil, and eucalyptus are usually the most commonly used essential oils for treatment, but you may also want to add other oils including sweet thyme, frankincense, myrrh, pine, rose otto, cypress, clary sage, lavender, galban um, rosemary, tea tree, hyssop, true Melissa, and marjoram.

If you don’t already take vitamin supplements, now is a good time to begin. Be sure to check the label to make sure that it contains complete B-complex and a minimum of 500 mg vitamin C. Further, one or two garlic capsules is also recommended, which also comes odor free.

Applications:

Adding peppermint oil your daily bath serves as a revitalizing option to reduce stress in your muscles, and lessen the harshness and frequencies of asthmatic and allergic attacks. Additionally, if you suffer from muscle pain and stress it is recommended that you regularly massage these oils into your chest, neck, shoulders, feet, and hands after bathing. Keeping a vaporizer in your bedroom will help ease your breathing and induce you into a deeper and more restful sleep. During the day, you may want to keep a handkerchief handy and apply a couple of drops of peppermint oil to it for what is called, dry inhalation therapy.
